Today we went antiquing to Salado. While I have sworn a blood oath to my boyfriend to not buy anymore big, heavy pieces of furniture he has to lug around until I’m done with all my current projects (BOO!), I am always on the hunt things to decoupage with. We hit up the Salado Antique Mall because I wanted to get some old magazines, circa 1940′s/50′, for a project I have in mind.

These are vintage copies of Liberty magazine, founded in 1924:

LOL at ‘ThePrivate Life of J. Edgar Hoover’. 
They were only about $5 each. They’re falling apart; most of the pages are torn, but that actually adds to the look I’m going for. I am going to use these to cover a dresser I got for free from some good friends of ours.
I love the Salado Antique Mall, mostly for their insane collection of vintage books, magazines, song sheets, cards and more.
And their prices are extremely reasonable.AND it’s a haggle-friendly zone. Don’t be afraid to negotiate with them; they’re actually quite reasonable and fair.
I also picked up some vintage library card cataloge cards at Bee’s Antiques in Salado next door. If you’re close to my age, you remember when you had to learn the Dewey Decimal System so you could use these to find the books you wanted. These were typed out, individually. I get really nostalgic when I see things like this.
I have a nice end table that I am going to cover with these. I think it could end up being one of my favorite pieces.
Lastly, I snagged this Texas almanac from 1974. The kitschy tourism ads alone are worth the $3 I paid for it.
